Acts Chapter 2:42 states “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”
Moreover, Acts 2: 44 states “And all that believed were together, and had all things common”
Through these couple of verses, we can see that the early church was different than the church of today. Their faith was truly applied to their lives. They did not departmentalize their faith but they lived it out. Their faith was seen in every aspect of their lives. They continue on a regular basis studying God’s Word, fellowshipping with each other, breaking bread, and in prayer. Acts 2:44 sums it all up the early church was together and had all things in common. This is the true fellowship needed today!
Hence, the problem with believers today is that we have individualized our lives to be separatists. We see believers maybe once or twice a week at church. This is why there are so many lonely believers turning away from the faith to the world. It’s time for us to come back together and not just talk about fellowship but participate in fellowship.
In closing, Acts 2:46 “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart”
This verse shows that the early church fellowship with one another on a daily basis going from house to house. They open up homes for sharing meals with one another for the enjoyment of each other’s company. I will like to challenge us to do the same and become hands-on believers putting faith into action. To end xenophobia and open up our homes for fellowship. My wife and I have Bible study, prayer, and a potluck dinner every Wednesday at 6 pm, if any believers are interested in joining us for the fellowship please feel free to contact Michael or Maxine at 901-612-5051. Let’s put fellowship into action. Amen!
